Sr. Hardware Validation Engineer

Our Mission

At Humanoid we strive to create the world’s leading, commercially scalable, safe, and advanced humanoid robots that seamlessly integrate into daily life and amplify human capacity.

Vision

In a world where artificial intelligence opens up new horizons, our faith in its potential unveils a new outlook where, together, humans and machines build a new future filled with knowledge, inspiration, and incredible discoveries. The development of a functional humanoid robot underpins an era of abundance and well-being where poverty will disappear, and people will be able to choose what they want to do. We believe that providing a universal basic income will eventually be a true evolution of our civilization.

Solution

As the demands on our built environment rise, labour shortages loom. With the world’s workforce increasingly moving away from undesirable tasks, the manufacturing, construction, and logistics industries critical to our daily lives are left exposed. By deploying our general-purpose humanoid robots in environments deemed hazardous or monotonous, we envision a future where human well-being is safeguarded while closing the gaps in critical global labour needs.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Hardware Validation Engineer to take ownership of our physical testing strategy. This is a foundational role: you will not just run tests; you will build the lab.

We are approaching the next level of the design for our sub-systems and full robot assemblies. We need a leader to scout, plan, and equip a dedicated validation facility to ensure our robots meet rigorous regulatory standards and warranty targets. You will define the physical limits of our hardware, managing everything from thermal chambers to EMC scans.

What You’ll Do

  •  Facility Establishment & Planning (Immediate Priority)
  • Lab Build-out: Lead the selection and setup of a physical test facility (internal office space vs. external rental). Assess power requirements, floor loading, and safety protocols for heavy machinery.
  • Equipment Sourcing: Identify, procure, and commission essential test equipment, including Thermal Chambers, Shaker Tables (Vibration), and EMC pre-compliance tools.
  • Test Rig Development: Design and build custom mechanical jigs and fixtures to stress-test specific sub-systems (e.g., repeating arm movements, actuators loading, cable flexing).
  • 2. Reliability, Durability & Warranty
  • Life-Cycle Testing: Execute long-term endurance tests to validate warranty targets. This includes HALT/HASS methodologies to determine Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
  • Cable & Interconnects: Design specific “torture tests” for cable chains and harnesses to detect fatigue and wear before they reach the customer.
  • Battery & Power: Manage battery cycling stations to validate charge/discharge curves, thermal performance under load, and degradation over time.
  • 3. Regulatory Compliance & Safety
  • EMC & EMI: Manage the Electromagnetic Compatibility strategy. Perform pre-compliance scanning (using EMC cameras/probes) and manage the relationship with external accredited labs for final FCC/CE certification.
  • NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness): Measure and mitigate acoustic noise and mechanical vibration to ensure smooth operation and user comfort.
  • Safety Validation: Verify Active and Passive safety mechanisms (e-stops, collision sensors) against industry standards (e.g., ISO 13849, ISO 10218).

We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: 5+ years in Hardware Validation, Reliability Engineering, or Test Engineering, preferably in Robotics, Automotive, or Aerospace.
  • Facility Setup: Proven experience setting up a test lab, including selecting vendors, managing rental contracts, or commissioning heavy equipment.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of certification processes (UL, CE, FCC) and standards (IEC 61000 for EMC, IEC 60068 for Environmental).
  • Data Acquisition: Proficiency with DAQ systems (e.g., LabVIEW, National Instruments, Dewesoft) and sensors (accelerometers, thermocouples, load cells).
  • Project Management: Ability to manage test timelines that span months (aging/endurance) and ensure they align with the product release roadmap.
  • Nice-to-Have:
  • Mechanical design skills (SolidWorks/CAD) to design your own test fixtures.
  • Experience specifically with Lithium-Ion battery safety and testing.
  • Knowledge of Python for automating data collection from test instruments
    The Equipment You Will Manage
  • Environmental/Climatic Chambers (Temperature & Humidity)
  • Vibration Tables / Shakers
  • EMC Scanners / Spectrum Analyzers
  • Battery Cyclers
  • Custom Pneumatic/Mechanical Endurance Rigs

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary plus participation in our Stock Option Plan
  • Paid vacation with adjustments based on your location to comply with local labor laws
  • Travel opportunities to our Vancouver and Boston offices
  • Office perks: free breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and regular team events
  • Freedom to influence the product and own key initiatives
  • Collaboration with top‑tier engineers, researchers, and product experts in AI and robotics
  • Startup culture prioritising speed, transparency, and minimal bureaucracy
