Systems Architect
Humanoid is the first AI and robotics company in the UK, creating the world’s most advanced, reliable, commercially scalable, and safe humanoid robots. Our first humanoid robot HMND 01 is a next-gen labour automation unit, providing highly efficient services across various use cases, starting with industrial applications.
We are assembling a world-class robotics engineering team in Vancouver to solve some of the hardest problems in humanoid robotics — including biped locomotion, wheeled humanoid mobility platforms, whole-body manipulation, distributed robotic control systems, and scalable humanoid architectures.
We are looking for a Systems Architect to define and drive the overall architecture of Humanoid’s robotic platforms, including both bipedal humanoid robots and wheeled humanoid robotic systems designed for industrial environments.
If you are excited about defining the architecture of complex robotic systems operating in the real world, we want to hear from you.
Our Mission
At Humanoid we strive to create the world’s leading, commercially scalable, safe, and advanced humanoid robots that seamlessly integrate into daily life and amplify human capacity.
About the Role
As a Systems Architect at Humanoid, you will be responsible for defining the technical foundation and evolution of their robotic platforms, specifically designing the integrated architecture that unifies mechanical, electrical, compute, sensing, AI, and software subsystems. The role requires deep expertise in robotics systems engineering, humanoid robot architecture, distributed control systems, and hardware-software co-design. The architect will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the robots meet high standards for performance, reliability, and scalability for real-world deployment.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and implement technical strategies aligned with the company’s mission and long-term robotics roadmap
- Define and own the overall system architecture for humanoid robots, including bipedal and wheeled robotic platforms
- Architect system-level designs for mobility, manipulation, sensing, compute architecture, communication networks, and power systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering leads and subject matter experts to design scalable robotic platforms
- Define and manage system-level requirements and ensure alignment across all engineering teams
- Establish interfaces and integration strategies across mechanical, electrical, embedded, controls, and AI subsystems
- Lead system-level trade studies and guide critical technical decisions using structured, evidence-based analysis
- Present architectural directions, technical trade-offs, and system roadmaps to engineering leadership
- Identify and resolve system bottlenecks impacting performance, reliability, or scalability
- Define distributed computing architectures for perception, control, and autonomous decision-making
- Create and maintain system architecture documentation, including block diagrams, interface specifications, and design narratives
- Establish technical standards, system integration strategies, and best practices
- Guide system integration efforts across engineering teams to ensure reliable and high-performing robotic platforms
- Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the product development lifecycle
- Stay up to date on emerging robotics technologies, architectures, and industry best practices.
We’re Looking For
- 15+ years of industry experience in robotics, autonomous systems, or complex electromechanical platforms
- 5+ years of experience in system architecture or technical leadership roles
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of robotic system design, including kinematics, dynamics, motion control, and perception systems
- Experience designing complex robotics or autonomous systems architectures
- Strong understanding of hardware-software co-design and real-time robotics computing architectures
- Experience with distributed robotic systems and middleware frameworks
- Familiarity with embedded systems, microcontrollers, FPGAs, and high-performance compute platforms
- Experience integrating AI/ML systems, sensor fusion, and autonomous decision-making pipelines
- Understanding of power systems, battery technologies, and communication networks
- Experience with system simulation tools such as Gazebo, Simulink, or similar environments
- Strong analytical and systems thinking skills with the ability to manage trade-offs between performance, cost, and complexity
- Ability to lead cross-disciplinary engineering collaboration in fast-paced robotics development environments.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience working on humanoid robots or legged robotics platforms
- Experience designing bipedal locomotion architectures
- Experience with wheeled robotic platforms used in industrial or logistics environments
- Experience with robot perception systems and multi-sensor fusion
- Familiarity with ROS / ROS2 or robotic middleware architectures
- Experience building AI-enabled robotic systems
- Experience with robot digital twins and advanced simulation environments
- Experience in robotics startups, aerospace, autonomous vehicles, or advanced robotics companies.
What We Offer
- Comprehensive extended health benefits starting on your first day, including fully paid medical and dental, virtual care, employee and family assistance, and worldwide emergency medical support.
- Meaningful time off to rest and recharge: 23 days of annual leave (accrued), 15 days of paid sick leave, and paid company holidays.
- Equity included–we believe builders should share in what they build.
- Free daily catered lunch, snacks, and drinks in‑office.
- Collaboration with top‑tier engineers, researchers, and product experts in AI and robotics.
- Freedom to influence the product and own key initiatives.
